PHD student Jun Mizutani represented the Tohoku University Triathlon Club at the Japan Ironman 70.3 on June 9 in Aichi prefecture.
Athletes swam a 1.2-mile, single-loop open water course in the Pacific Ocean, between the mainland and the Centrair International Airport Island. The 56-mile, two loop scenic bike course passed through rural areas, and athletes encountered several rolling hills with technical turns. The 13.1-mile run course was mostly flat and spanned across the bridge from Airport Island before returning to the finish line.
